1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of UniRoom ("we", "our", "us"), a student-focused community and group-matching platform designed to help users connect and communicate with others at similar education stages.
By creating an account or using any part of UniRoom, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.
UniRoom is intended for users aged 16 or above.
2. Eligibility
You must:
- Be at least 16 years old (or the minimum digital consent age in your region).
- Be a student, prospective student, or otherwise using the platform for legitimate academic or community purposes.
We may request verification if misuse is suspected.
3. Your Account
By using the Service, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your login details secure and confidential.
- Be responsible for all activity under your account.
- Not impersonate others or misrepresent your identity.
You may delete your account at any time through the app settings.
We may suspend or restrict accounts for security reasons or suspected misuse.
4. Acceptable Use
You must not use UniRoom to:
- Post or distribute illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or hateful content.
- Share or upload content that infringes intellectual property or privacy rights.
- Spam, run scams, engage in phishing, or attempt to obtain personal data unlawfully.
- Attempt to bypass security controls, rate limits, or access areas of the platform you are not authorised to use.
- Scrape, harvest, or mass-download user data.
- Upload malware or disrupt platform functionality.
We reserve the right to remove content, restrict functionality, or suspend accounts violating these rules.
5. User Content
5.1 Ownership
You retain full ownership of any content you create, such as posts, comments, messages, images, or profile information.
5.2 Licence to UniRoom
You grant UniRoom a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.
This licence ends when your content is deleted, except where:
- Copies remain in backups (for a limited time).
- Content must remain for thread integrity (e.g., comments in group discussions), in which case your identity will be removed where reasonably possible.
5.3 Public Visibility
- The following are always public: username, first name.
- The following are only public if you opt in: last name, email.
- Posts, comments, likes, community activity, and certain room content may be visible to other users depending on room settings.
5.4 Responsibility
You are responsible for ensuring your content complies with applicable laws and these Terms.
6. Platform Features
UniRoom currently includes:
- User profiles
- Rooms and room invitations
- Community posts, Q&A, comments, and likes
- Friendships and in-app connections
- Messaging and notifications
- File uploads (avatars, banners, room images, community images)
- Optional Google Sign-In
We may add, modify, suspend, or remove features at any time without liability.
7. Third-Party Services
We use Firebase for:
- Authentication (including Google Sign-In)
- Firestore database
- File storage
Your use of UniRoom also means accepting Google/Firebase's applicable terms and privacy policies.
8. Disclaimers
UniRoom is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
We do not guarantee:
- Uninterrupted or error-free service
- That content posted by users is accurate, complete, or safe
- That data will not be lost, corrupted, or improperly accessed despite safeguards
Use the Service at your own risk.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, UniRoom will not be liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of profits, data, reputation, or revenue
- Any damages resulting from:
- Use or inability to use the Service
- User-generated content
- Security breaches beyond our reasonable control
- Account misuse due to your failure to secure login credentials
Our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you have paid us (which is typically £0, as the service is free).
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold UniRoom harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, legal fees, or expenses arising out of:
- Your content
- Your breach of these Terms
- Your misuse of the Service
- Violations of law committed through your account
11. Termination
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your account if:
- You violate these Terms
- You pose a security risk
- Your activity disrupts the platform or its users
- Required by law or for safety reasons
Upon termination:
- Your right to use the Service ends immediately.
- Relevant sections of these Terms (e.g., liability, indemnity, content licence) continue to apply.
You may delete your account at any time.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms when necessary. When changes are made:
- The "Last updated" date will be revised
- Significant updates may be communicated via email or in-app notification
Continuing to use UniRoom after updated Terms are published means you accept them.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of London, United Kingdom, unless local law requires otherwise.
